Tolkien Collection Haul: April-June 2016

I almost forgot to do this post! For some reason I thought April-July was three months, can’t tell you why I had that brain fart. The past few months have been very good to my collection, especially the book portion of it! Like I said in an earlier haul post, one day I’ll figure out how to nicely display everything but today is still not that day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tolkien Collection Haul: July-September 2015

July, August and September were pretty good to my Tolkien Collection! Got a nice mix of items, from books to a Gollum hat.

Here’s my first batch of books. Bought that copy of The Tolkien Companion by J.E.A. Taylor at a book sale over the summer, I want to say it was $2? Too bad there dust jacket is missing. I had a difficult time finding the ISBN, but inside it says PR6039.032Z49 1976 828′.9’1209 76-5203. I guess that’s it?

I bought the grey copy of The Lord of the Rings (ISBN 978-0-544-27344-3) at Strand for $9 which was like winning the lottery because the original list price is $30 (NYC book shops usually aren’t that cheap).

I actually got that copy of The Silmarillion First American Edition at a free book exchange! I love free books and I really love free Tolkien books. I already had a copy but this one is in MUCH better condition. Continue reading

Book Haul: August 10, 2014

Got home a little while ago and feel like I am covered in a thin layer of other people’s sweat. Ahhhh the joys of summer.

I spent today in NYC, something I don’t exactly enjoy doing in the summer (it’s gross). I saw Violet the Musical and it turns out it was their final performance! That was pretty cool, I’ve never been to a final performance for a show before. I was excited to see this show because I heard a lot of great things about it, and also for Sutton Foster. She was amazing as usual! I saw her in Young Frankenstein and Shrek the Musical. I looooooved Violet, I’m going to need to get that soundtrack for my ipod ASAP. 😀

Now onto the book haul portion of this post…

Those Little Moments #2

Gifs help me see and appreciate small moments from movies/television shows that I never really noticed before. I’ve been giffing LOTR for a few years now and though it is extremely annoying and tedious (and makes my wrists feel like they’re breaking) I’ve discovered many new things and it made my love for those movies even stronger. So I’m just going to include from gifs from the trilogy that tug at my heart strings the most.

Aragorn’s coronation turns me into an emotional mess but to be fair I’m already an emotional mess by the time this scene happens. I only noticed this moment this year and it….it makes me want to cry. It looks like Elrond is saying “Go to him.” And he looks at her with so much love and sadness because he knows she and Aragorn truly love each other but he knows he will eventually need to leave her. And he won’t be there for the rest of her life, to see her children, to be able to spend time with his daughter and I’m going to cry. “None saw her last meeting with Elrond her father, for they went up into the hills and there spoke long together, and bitter was their parting that should endure beyond the ends of the world.” This post sums up my emotions pretty well.

Then comes Aragorn and Arwen’s kiss AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED BECAUSE I WILL NEVER STOP. The way he looks at her, like he cannot believe she’s really there. And then she looks at him so hopeful and full of love and happiness that they can finally be together and THEN THEY KISS AND IT’S A GREAT KISS, THEY SPIN, SMILE, KISS SOME MORE IT’S GREAT. Sorry for the excessive caps.
After the initial kiss they just look at each other, Arwen is stroking Aragorn’s hair, he has a look of pure joy on his face it’s all too much. The joy quickly turns into something else I don’t really know how to explain, it’s like a look of wanting I guess.
Then comes the second kiss and they way he looks at her for a little while before closing his eyes I just. It’s like he’s trying to make sure he remembers this one moment, her lips against his, this one moment of bliss.
Ughugh then they smile and it’s all too much for me to handle.
*sigh* Okay that’s it. Man, eleven years later and I’m still smiling like an idiot over those two. I hate them. (I love them.)
